Geoff was invited by Jaime Royo Olid and Anna Rowell of the Cambridge University group Architects Sans Frontiers (ASF) to give a lecture at the School of Architecture on 27 April. The title of Geoff’s lecture was ‘The global urban challenge: Are architects and planners part of the solution or part of the problem?’ Following the lecture, there was an extended discussion followed by dinner in St John’s Hall, after which a large group repaired to the college bar for further discussions.
Geoff was impressed by the interest of the students in the social, economic and political context of land and housing development issues and the wide diversity of the student group. He wishes them all well in their course and careers.
Late in the evening, Geoff and research assistant Martina Manara were given rooms in the college so we could sample life in this great city. The following morning, we met Jaime and his wife over breakfast for discussions on Habitat III. A tour of the colleges ended a hugely enjoyable visit.
